Hello and welcome to my little corner of the internet!
Please leave your shoes at the door, I don’t want the microbes of the city making their way onto the rug.
First things first, my name is Carly Lanning. By day, I work as a Creative Editorial Lead managing all book-related campaigns at a creative marketing agency. Off the clock, I work as a freelance journalist focused on culture reporting and features writing. While my journalism tends to dig into topics surrounding digital media, mental health, media representation, human interest, and feminism, I hold an additional expertise in trauma-informed storytelling and content creation for violence prevention organizations. At the heart of it all, I’m deeply committed to using storytelling to help others feel understood, to feel empowered, and to heal.
But Hey, Is This Thing On? is a little more personal. A little more me.
Hey, Is This Thing On? was founded as a place to house my many honest thoughts on many things — both big and small. Book reviews, dissections of media representation, mental health, solo travel, learning to understand your own brain, the struggles of writing rejection, imposter syndrome, tips for city living, discussions of healing after trauma, and more book recommendations — this blog is a lot of things in one place. But ultimately, it’s my love letter to every other person finding their way in this beautifully messy and imperfect world.
Perhaps you stumbled here by accident? If so, welcome! Should you enjoy the blog, I’d love for you to subscribe, share, and comment along the way, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading. It means more than I can say.
